Rebuilding Spirit of Literacy Together With FKD MANTEK
More
days literacy culture in Indonesia is receding. Whereas in this modern era the
love of literacy level should be increased because has been many libraries
established, even there are bookmobiles and online libraries. So there is no
reason to not reading a book. But in the reality, we as the next generation of
our nation are reluctant to read, even for touching books or another reading
materials we are very infrequent. According to the data of the Organisation For
Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the reading culture of
Indonesians is ranked the lowest among 52 countries in Asia. UNESCO reports in
2012, on average European children can spend 25 books in a year, while Indonesia
reaches the lowest point precisely 0,001%. It means that of 1000 Indonesian
children, only a child who can spend a book in a year. This is very
apprehensive, how does our country can progress if the level of literacy is
low? How will we become the agent of change later if our knowledge and insight
are nothing?
Islamic State University of Maulana Malik
Ibrahim Malang as the World Class University which combines two learning
methods that based on a boarding school and academic lectures as general really
need literacy containers to be able to produce more qualified human resources.
Therefore as the university student of Islamic State University of Maulana
Malik Ibrahim Malang, my friends and I took an initiative to construct a
discussion and literacy forum that will bear intellectual seeds namely FKD
MANTEK. With the existence of this community is expected to accommodate
students who are thirst of knowledge, because searching science not only
limited in the class but also outside the class which available for a public.
Communication
Forum and Intellectual Student Discussion, commonly called FKD MANTEK, is one
of learning forum develops communication, discussion and literacy culture
initiated by student across department and universities such as Management,
Mathematics, Physic, Arabic Language and Literature, English Language and
Literature, Constitutional Law, Islamic Business Law, Islamic Religious
Education, and the others, at least each department must have its own
delegation. Some universities who have joined us except Islamic State
University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang itself are Brawijaya University and
Islamic University Malang (UNISMA), in addition, they also come from different
organizations and regions. It sounds interesting because it is very difficult
to unify the difference, but with determination and willingness we are able to
build and develop this community as currently. Latitude of FKD MANTEK is
culture literacy movement which is supported by study classes formation with
reliable and professional mentors of each, such as literature review,
philosophy, Islamic studies and comparative religion, law study and debate, and
journalistic classes. The study classes are conducted on a regular basis every
Saturday, while on Monday we sometimes will organize book review or just
getting gather to more familiar with each other.
FKD
MANTEK first established on17th of September 2016. So far FKD MANTEK has
hundreds of participants with 46 activator members. Participants are anyone who
participates in FKD MANTEK than activator members are people who have passed an
upgrading and declared qualified to move this discussion forum.
This
miniature campus is cultured in academic discourse. The difference in this
forum is a tradition that wants to be maintained to keep the repertoire of
scholarship and the diversity of understanding. So the communication pattern of
discussion, study and literacy are dynamic. In the midst of a crisis of
difference that led to the split, FKD MANTEK attends with color and scientific
atmosphere to be able to blend with anyone. Although this forum is new however
due to the support and motivation of various elements, great senior activists,
and counselors, FKD MANTEK successfully developed, as the evidence has
published the first and second books of FKD MANTEK, those are Literacy,
Discussion and Intelectual, and Literacy and Intellectual; Current Student.
The
existence of FKD MANTEK as communication, discussion, and literacy forum, it is
hoped that not only can rebuild the spirit of literacy but also can produce
qualified human resources and able to compete and commemorate economic
community of Asia or in Bahasa, “Masyarakat Ekonomi Asia” (MEA).
