The Diversity of Art

 

What’s the art? What do you have in your mind when you listen the word art? What are the various form of art that you have ever met?

Art is a beauty which is created by humans through feelings, ideas and creativities. Art is able to hypnotize everyone and arouse a sense of awe , interest and satisfaction to the art lovers. Moreover, art is part of culture which have particular functions such as religion, education, communication, entertaiment, health or therapy and the others. In general, art can strengthen the bond of solidarity of a society too. However artistry is difficult to explain and rate because every artist has their own characteristic in producing art, then the art connoisseurs are also have different fondness.

There are many kinds of artistry even all of things around us contain artistic values. According to the medium art is divided into three parts, those are artistry that is enjoyed by audio, visual or both audio and visual (audiovisual).

First let’s we talk about auditory art. This type of art is an art that only utilizes the sense of hearing (ears) in enjoying it. The example are music art like guitar and gamelan performance, sound art like band performance and literary art such as pantun and poetry. The second is visual art, based on the name this kind of art can be enjoyed with the sense of sight (eyes). For example are Two-dimensional art which includes lines, light, color and shape like painting, graphic arts and cinematography, then Three-dimensional art that includes spaces and forms that can be tried such as statue, architecture and pantomime. The last is audiovisual art, it’s mean this art can be enjoyed by the senses of hearing and sight (ears and eyes). For istance are dance, drama and opera.

When we talk about art generally people will conceive a painting, dance or statue. Don’t you realize that art is growing rapidly in this modern age? Even our face can be canvas to express our imagination, food can be stone or wood to be created into various unique shapes and trash can be change into something useful.

Those pictures are samples of artistry. The first picture is kind of portraiture. Expressing ideas through a painting not only be able to carried out on canvas, paper or drawing book, wood and wall but face and human body also might be used as a medium to carve out our creativities. This kind of art usually mention as make up. In this modern era make up art is very popular, with the increasing variety of make up tools and the extraordinary ability to play colors and supported by high imagination make up is able to change the ugly face into the face of a princess so that we no longer need to do plastic surgery to be beautiful. Even make up art is very required in the cinema world. One of the example is character of valak in horror film, it habitually using make up to cover the real face of the actors. Furthermore, pantomime and clowns also use full makeup to make their appearance look attractive and cute. So in essence, if we have good skills we will be able to produce invaluable forms of art.

Meal does not only function as a sourse of food but also might be means of art distribution and spoil the people’s eyes. As you see in the second picture, with a good skill in carving, forming and arranging the artist be able to create a wonderful art. By the existance of artistic value in meal, food will have high selling percentage than ordinary food because beside satiate it also contains the grade of beauty that can attract our attention. For example, a rice wrapper which is usually marketed at a price of 5,000 to 15,000 rupiah per pack, if it made into rice boxes with a variety of unique and funny shapes such as face, car, flowers, animal and others, it will definitely be more attractive and able to boost prices to 30,000 to 100,000 rupiah per rice box, it depends on the ingredients which is used and the difficulty in making variations of rice boxes.

The amount of garbage and the low society economy constrain the comunity to be creative. They change trash become a wonderful handycraft which is beneficial. Even many people that exploit trash to be grade business and certainly profitable. The third picture is one of the example of craft, it is piggy bank which made of coconut shell and logs that may not be used, that’s how craftment conjure crap into monumental thing.

Those are the diversity of art that we can found in our life and still there are many another artistry in the world especially in Indonesia. We must be proud of what we have and attemp to save and develope it because art is part of culture which must preserve in order to not to be extintct or captured by a foreign country. Beside that art as our culture is identity, principle and learning material.
